There are many ways to give to the Council on Aging of Ottawa. Planned Giving normally refers to donations made upon someone's passing. It is also referred to as a legacy donation or bequest. Terms of this type of donation are often disclosed in personal wills.
Legacy donations or bequests stated in wills can be very specific in identifying how the donation is to be used. It is important to remember that over time, specific programs may change. While the COA will make every attempt to honour specific donors' wishes, we ask that your legacy or bequest donations allow for some flexibility. If you are designating funds to specific programs, consider including a clause similar to this: “If, through the passage of time, this legacy becomes obsolete due to identified program changes, permission is given to alter the terms while adhering as closely as possible to the original intent.”
Please contact the Council on Aging of Ottawa to discuss planned giving.
