Get Engaged: Finding the right volunteer opportunity – with Volunteer Ottawa

April 23 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that suits you?  This webinar will show you how to find the right match with a non-profit here in the National Capital Region.  Whether you seek to volunteer from your home or get out into the fresh air, work solo or with others, commit long-term or just for the weekend, there are so many opportunities waiting for you. Claire Marshall, Board Secretary at Volunteer Ottawa, will show how your time, experience and enthusiasm can be engaged in volunteering, to the benefit of the community and you.

The webinar will lay out the current state of volunteering and how volunteering benefits both you and the community.  Learn how to get started or try something new:  what do you have to offer? what do you love to do?  is there a match?  The session will include tips on getting yourself ready, what you can expect as a volunteer and a demonstration of how to search for just the right opportunity using the interactive VO volunteer website.

Volunteer Ottawa has been active in the National Capital Region for over 60 years and is the place for volunteers and non-profits to find each other.

More on our presenter:

Claire, a NAFR member, worked in the Public Service for 25 years before shifting to the non-profit sector as a founding Vice President of the Institute On Governance.  Fourteen years later, she left the paid workforce to devote her energies to the community.  Since then, volunteering has seen her helping a local farmers’ market as a parking lot attendant, dog-sledding during a kids’ exchange in Iqaluit, advising community leaders in Lesotho on citizen engagement, chairing the Board of OrKidstra (an Ottawa social development program), developing a strategic plan for VSO in Bangladesh, serving on her condo board and leading a conversation circle for Afghan refugees. (This is what she means by “so many opportunities out there”!)

The content will be presented in English, however bilingual participation is encouraged. La présentation se fera en anglais, mais la participation dans les deux langues officielles est encouragée.
