About Smart Aging Online:
Many seniors make significant life decisions in crisis moments. When this happens to you or your family, you often don’t have adequate tools, resources and information to make the best decisions for you, or your loved ones.
Smart Aging Core Program Online is a series of eight weekly, interactive workshops covering key topics facing seniors today. Each workshop is designed to provide you with the information you need, before you need it, to make smart decisions at key transition points in your life.
Note: This online course includes an introductory week for Zoom orientation. Participants are expected to attend all 9 workshops.
Core Program Orientation
In this one-hour orientation, participants will meet other course participants and facilitators, familiarize themselves with basic Zoom functions, review the 8-week course content, and more.
Core Program Workshop 1: Understanding My Aging
Participants will have the opportunity to explore their thoughts about their lives now and in the future and determine for themselves which topics need their attention regarding their own aging.
Core Program Workshop 2: Staying Socially Connected
Participants will assess their own levels of connectedness, both social and in other forms, look at ways to improve their connectedness, and consider meaning and purpose in their lives.
Core Program Workshop 3: Taking Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle
Participants will identify their concerns about their health as they age, review physical changes of normal aging, and consider their own expectations and motivational tendencies in approaching their concerns.
Core Program Workshop 4: Preparing for a Health Crisis
Participants will consider scenarios including both sudden and gradual changes and will be provided with useful information, tools and resources that will help them to know what to do when health challenges arise.
Core Program Workshop 5: Getting to Where You Need to Go

Core Program Workshop 6: Exploring Housing Options
Participants will consider where they might want to live 2, 5, or 10 years from now, the numerous factors that may influence their preferences and decisions, and what options are currently available in Ottawa.
Core Program Workshop 7: Addressing Common Financial Concerns
