SUMMARY:Perley Health Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™ Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:Register now for the Perley Health Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™ October webinar\, presented by Elaine Wiersma\, PhD \nTopic: Contested Spaces and Places: Bringing Dementia into the Outdoors \nDate: Monday October 5\, 12:00-1:00 PM ET \nBiography: Elaine is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences and a Researcher at the Centre for Education and Research on Aging & Health at Lakehead University\, Thunder Bay\, Ontario. Her work aims to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions of older people and people with dementia and bridges the gap between research and practice. \nPresentation Objectives: This presentation will provide an overview of the development and operation of Dementia Gardens: A Place to Grow\, an outdoor nature based initiative that includes an adult day program for people living with dementia. Emerging findings from research on the first season of Dementia Gardens will be shared\, along with the benefits and challenges of developing and running an outdoor program for people with dementia. \nRegister now using the following link: https://tinyurl.com/CoEOctober2026Webinar

SUMMARY:Perley Health Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™ Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:Register now for the Perley Health Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™ September webinar\, presented by Kayne Park\, PhD \nTopic: The feasibility of a novel training tool to improve physical activity tendencies in older adults \nDate: Friday September 25\, 12:00-1:00 PM ET \nBiography: \n\nDr. Kayne Park is a postdoctoral researcher at uOttawa with a background in Electrical Engineering (BSc) and Neuroscience (PhD) both attained at Queen’s University. His current position at uOttawa is focused on studying the effects that age can have on our neurological function. His most recent project is looking to examine how age and frailty can affect our behaviour using robot-based video games. His research aims to highlight how novel approaches like robotic testing can improve our assessment of neurological function in ways that common clinical tests are unable to – potentially providing greater insight into the mechanisms of neurological (dys)function.\n\nPresentation Objectives: \nThe objective of this presentation is to showcase the feasibility and preliminary results of a recent robot-based training study to improve engagement in physical activity. Attendees will learn: \n\nThe purpose and design of feasibility studies\nAutomatic vs intentional behaviours\nThe design of training protocols\n\nRegister now using the following link: https://tinyurl.com/CoESeptember2026Webinar
