JOB DESCRIPTION
As a bilingual and inclusive Council, The Council on Aging of Ottawa works to advance the wellbeing of Ottawa’s older adults. The COA has been an active part of the Ottawa community for over 45 years, tackling issues important to seniors in areas such as health, housing, transportation, income security, and Francophone affairs.
POSITION SUMMARY
This bilingual mandatory position will focus primarily on the development, organization, and delivery of the Smart Aging Program as well as providing support to other educational and advocacy events. Such programming will be directed to older adults throughout the city of Ottawa including isolated seniors and other seniors at risk in both official languages.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SMART AGING / VIEILLIR ALLUMÉ
Smart Aging is a series of workshops covering key topics facing seniors today. Each workshop is designed to provide seniors with the information they need before they need it, to make smart decisions at key transition points in their lives.
- Work with the Smart Aging Committee to direct, expand and develop the program
- Engage with community partners to promote and coordinate the delivery of the program in various locations and to diverse groups
- Support the selection and development of new workshops
- Recruit, orient, and schedule volunteers (as required)
- Oversee the ongoing editing and translation of materials
- Coordinate registration, advertising, promotion, and evaluation of the program
- Manage the preparation, printing, and delivery of program materials
- Assist with applications for funding and complete funding reports
OTHER EDUCATIONAL AND ADVOCACY EVENTS
- Provide support to other staff and COA committees (including Francophone, Spirituality, Housing, Health, Transportation, and Income Security) relevant to their educational programming
- Develop and maintain a network of relationships with key partners in the community with special attention to those in the Francophone community
- Ensure timely communications updates out to the community regarding events and activities through various means including the COA INFO-FLASH electronic newsletters and website
- Develop outreach strategies to both French and English-speaking seniors in the community for purposes of promoting and advertising our educational programming and expanding our network
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual essential – English and French
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time-management skills and multitasking ability
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, database experience, communications software (e.g., Constant Contact), and aptitude to learn new software and systems
- Solid interpersonal skills
- Relevant post-secondary education or experience – Recent graduates welcomed

Salary: $55,000 – $60,000 per year
