Fund Development Coordinator – Job Description

 

As a bilingu­al and inclusive Council, The Council on Aging of Ottawa works to advance the wellbeing of Ottawa’s older adults.  The COA has been an active part of the Ottawa community for over 45 years, tackling issues important to seniors in areas such as education, health, housing, transportation, income security, and francophone affairs. 

Position Summary

The Fund Development Coordinator will lead the execution of the organization’s fundraising and development functions to meet our fundraising goals throughout the year. Priorities will include cultivating relationships with existing and potential donors, seeking and successfully acquiring grants, organizing fundraising and awareness-raising events and campaigns, and maintaining effective communications with COA’s membership and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Fund Development

  • Research potential funding sources and fundraising opportunities
  • Execute an established fund development plan
  • Develop grant proposals and apply for funding
  • Identify and cultivate prospects for major gifts, and outside / third-party fundraisers
  • Cultivate a network of dedicated donors and volunteers
  • Guide the donation management process (receipting, thank you letters, recognition)
  • Use database/fundraising software (NEON) to cultivate donor relations
  • Manage and regularly update the donor database
  • Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met
  • Collaborate with the staff, board and appropriate committees
  • Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs

Event Planning

  • Plan and execute all aspects (including logistics, sponsors, volunteers, etc.) of fundraising and membership events
  • Seek out new third-party events and act as primary liaison with their organizers
  • Promote events to appropriate audiences
  • Maintain positive relations and communications with donors, sponsors and stakeholders
  • Recruit, manage and support event volunteers

Administration

  • Develop annual fund development work plan and revenue goals
  • Create and maintain financial reporting process
  • Coordinate meetings including invitation, minute taking, etc.
  • Ensure the database is updated regularly with accurate and detailed information

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • English Essential – Bilingualism is a strong asset
  • Sincere enjoyment of older adults including the ability to listen and understand what is of value to them
  • A clear interest in making a difference in making Ottawa a more age-friendly city
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills and multitasking ability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, database experience, communications software (e.g., Constant Contact), and aptitude to learn new software and systems
  • Solid interpersonal skills
  • Relevant post-secondary education (e.g. fundraising management) or experience

Job Type:                         Full time – 10 months (with the anticipation of extending into 2024)

Salary:                             $50,000 per annum on contract

Schedule:                        Days, Monday to Friday

Education/Experience:   Relevant post-secondary education or experience. Recent graduates welcomed.
